In 2023, the Nicholas Institute for Energy, Environment & Sustainability established a senior career specialist position funded and managed in partnership with the Duke Career Center. The specialist serves the Career Center’s new Energy, Environment & Sustainability career community through one-on-one and group advising for students exploring careers within that domain; through the creation and curation of content and learning resources for the career community’s online hub; and through the development of co-curricular programming that supports its members’ professional objectives.

Senior career specialist Carl Thompson works directly with the Duke Career Center’s primary constituents: undergraduates, master’s students enrolled in The Graduate School, and doctoral students. He also works to leverage other resources across the university by participating and collaborating with career officers from Duke’s professional schools, thus better connecting his stakeholders to the broader ecosystem of support across campus.
