From September 22-24, 2023, Duke welcomed the cast and crew of PearlDamour’s Ocean Filibuster for three performances in Reynolds Industries Theater. This music theater experience, set in a future Global Senate, imagines an anthropomorphic ocean advocating for and defending itself from proposed legislation that would end the oceans as we know them. The show touched on themes of awareness, engagement, and climate justice and included educational and artistic installations in the lobby of Reynolds Theater on topics such as plastics pollution, narrative connection to the oceans, and sea level rise in North Carolina. The performances were sponsored by Duke Arts.
