From January 28-31, the School of Nursing hosted climate and environmental health luminary Barbara Sattler, Professor Emerita at the University of San Francisco and a founding member of the Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments, an international non-government organization that helps to integrate environmental health into nursing training and practice. Sattler’s visit coincided with a Nursing faculty retreat, at which she presented about her work and how the nursing discipline can respond to climate and environmental challenges. Alongside Sattler’s faculty retreat presentation, School of Nursing faculty members Valerie Sabol and AnnMarie Walton also highlighted specific courses within the current nursing curriculum that already emphasize climate change and sustainability, as well as opportunities to further enhance curricular and extracurricular learning based on new national guidelines, like the American Association of the Colleges of Nursing Essentials  and the Planetary Health Framework.
