In 2024, Duke’s Pre-College programming, open to students grades 6-11, included an option for students to spend a week at the Duke Marine Lab and take courses on sustainability, conservation, marine biology and more. On-campus residential and commuter students also had the opportunity to select from courses on environmental art, primate conservation, smart cities, bioethics of food, environmental innovation, and transformative business leadership.
During the 2023-24 academic year, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) through Learning Innovation & Lifetime Education at Duke offered courses to more than 2,000 adults on understanding the latest climate change science, engaging in responses to mitigate climate change, ecologically sustainable gardening, and lemur conservation.
Duke Alumni Engagement and Development’s Forever Learning Institute hosted a Spring 2024 webinar series on energy transformation. Over the course of four sessions, attendees delved into topics including the history of humans’ energy consumption, transitioning off fossil fuels, future energy pathways, and energy justice.
