Thirteen Green Devils, paid interns through Duke’s Office of Climate and Sustainability, gained hands-on experience and made tangible impacts on campus by taking on the following projects during 2023-24:
- Sustainability Ambassador Program Facilitators guided sustainability activities and community among first-year students, empowering them to pursue Green Devil internships in the future.
- The Sustainable Duke Student Engagement Liaison linked Sustainable Duke with Duke’s environmental community, coordinating strategy and initiatives across student groups, faculty, and staff, with an emphasis on Campus Sustainability Month and Earth Month.
- The Communications Fellow designed graphics and managed social media to promote Green Devil initiatives.
- Devil’s Thrifthouse Coordinators ran Duke’s free thrift pop-ups in Fall 2023 and Spring 2024, promoting circularity and waste reduction on campus.
- Zero-Waste K-ville managed waste reduction efforts at home basketball events, expanding partnerships to reduce waste across athletic events and engaging volunteers to support Duke’s zero-waste goals.
- In collaboration with the Duke Dining Sustainability team, the Sustainable Dining intern supported a range of strategic sustainability strategies across Dining’s portfolio.
