Duke alumni gathered virtually in March 2025 for Future Forward Research: Transforming the Future of Climate, a session hosted by the Forever Learning Institute as part of its spring 2025 theme. With 484 registrants and 88 live attendees, the event showcased Duke’s climate research and real-world impact. Faculty experts highlighted key milestones from 2024 and unveiled forward-looking initiatives aimed at building a sustainable future.

Attendees also explored a related panel from Duke Research & Innovation Week titled Climate and Health: Evaluating Risks and Developing Solutions. The panel delved into the intersection of climate change and public health, examining how environmental shifts affect health outcomes and healthcare systems. Experts discussed strategies to mitigate climate-related health risks, bolster resilience in vulnerable communities and integrate climate considerations into health policy. Featured speakers included Duke faculty members Robert Tighe, Mercedes Bravo, Nishad Jayasundara, Catherine Staton, Denise Nepveux and William Pan. They represented Duke’s School of Medicine, Nicholas School of the Environment and Global Health Institute.
