Under the leadership of the Duke Kunshan University (DKU) Climate and Sustainability Initiative Executive Committee, the DKU Sustainability Committee was officially established and held its first meeting in February 2025. The committee is inspired by the Duke Climate Commitment Advisory Council, with the goal of developing DKU’s first Sustainability Strategy by the end of 2025. The committee brings together 32 faculty (15), staff (13), and students (four) from different departments and offices to ensure that the diverse voices of the DKU international community are heard and sufficiently represented in the pursuit of sustainable development. The committee meets once a month during the academic year. At the final meeting of the 2024-2025 academic year, which coincided with the visit of Dr. Toddi Steelman, Vice President and Vice Provost for Climate and Sustainability, the committee officially announced the membership of four subcommittees: Education, Research, Operations and Engagement. Each subcommittee has a chair and associate chair, and includes representatives from faculty, staff, and students, supported by members of the CSI Executive Committee. The establishment of the DKU Sustainability Committee marks an important milestone in strengthening the institution’s sustainability governance structure and lays the foundation for accelerating and advancing the sustainability agenda at DKU.
