Duke deepened its commitment to sustainability with the launch of the Athletics Climate Team (ACT) in spring 2025, a new initiative supporting the Duke Climate Commitment. Spearheaded by Nina King, Vice President and King-Compton Families Director of Athletics, and Toddi Steelman, Vice President and Vice Provost for Climate and Sustainability, ACT brings together over 40 student-athletes, coaches and staff to align Duke Athletics with the university’s climate goals. ACT builds on years of grassroots efforts, including the Duke Sustainable Athletics Group. The initiative focuses on three areas: operations and physical environment, engagement and education and leadership and innovation. Prior to the ACT launch, Duke Athletics had already implemented numerous sustainable practices, such as LEED-certified facilities, LED lighting, water-efficient turf and locally sourced meals. ACT aims to inspire the broader community to join in building a more sustainable future. READ MORE.
