Duke University’s Environmental Services team, in partnership with the Office of Climate and Sustainability, focused on becoming Green Seal certified for its housekeeping and cleaning services. Green Seal, a leading certification organization, requires institution-wide alignment with cleaning services, including rigorous staff training, sustainable purchasing of environmentally preferred cleaning products, and cleaning techniques and processes with the goal of ensuring human health and safety.
This certification process, led by Duke’s Facilities Management Department, involved a site inspection of Grainger Hall to review Duke’s standard operating procedures and cleaning supply inventories to ensure that Duke complies with all requirements. Duke will continue to train staff across campus in Green Seal expectations.
This process was partially funded by a donation from Stacey Marshall and Dan Marshall, whose gift is helping Duke University infuse environmental health practices across the university.
